Acheson and Glover

Novosco virtualised Acheson & Glover’s IT server infrastructure using VMware technology.  This reduced and consolidated the number of servers from 35 to six. An EMC SAN was also put in place to manage storage and data.

Established in 1960, Acheson & Glover has a £90 million turnover and is a leading manufacturer of paving and flags, masonry blocks, retaining walls, bricks, hollowcore flooring, precast stairs, concrete, blocks and quarried stone.  With offices throughout the UK & Ireland, Acheson & Glover has an impressive portfolio of products manufactured to the highest standards.

Virtualisation & Disaster Recovery

In 2007, Acheson & Glover acquired Finley Breton which doubled its size and IT user base overnight.  This brought the number of employees to 750 and presented issues to the IT department such as service problems, storage concerns, ineffective disaster recovery, remote management issues etc.  To meet these challenges, Novosco assisted Acheson & Glover with the implementation of virtualisation using VMware technology, a remote user access solution, and an effective disaster recovery plan.

Remote Access

Acheson & Glover has over 350 IT users throughout the UK & Ireland that all require access to the central ERP system.  With bandwidth constraints and the need to service remote users such as sales personnel, contract managers, forklift drivers and home workers, Citrix technology was implemented to allow remote access to desktop applications using Citrix Access Gateway.

Operational Standardisation

Acheson & Glover also has a Managed Service agreement with Novosco to complement their IT team.   This offers best practice regular and proactive management /monitoring of IT systems.

“We have standardised suppliers, which we have done by selecting Novosco and have standardised IT by implementing virtualisation and by using innovative technologies from big players in the technology game”, continued David Weir.
